After opening my Etsy shop back in August 2021, I’ve been busy preparing new products I want to release in my shop.
I was going
to sell Kpop dolls just like how I used to. But considering I was basically committing
a copyright infringement (LOL), I deleted all of my listings after the first order
was made in October. The risk is not worth it, and beside my pride actually
doesn’t allow it. Soon after, I just decided to try offering PDF patterns of my
original designs on my Etsy shop.
And then, here comes the real job: PDF pattern and tutorial making process.
I’ve been
sewing the dolls which I designed back in 2016 since around July, but I hadn’t
really tried to write the tutorial. Hell, I’ve never tried making any felt
doll tutorial. It took me few weeks to do some so-called research about
doll-making tutorials. I read so many references it makes me feel like I’ve
wrote ones myself LOL. I think it’s fortunate that I’ve spent my time since
last year watching videos about clothes-making (ehem—Bernadette and Micarah)
that it was quick for me to familiarize myself with doll-making terms. I mean,
they are pretty much the same.
Making new
products fresh from my own brain really does feel like a real challenge. I can’t
believe it took me, probably, around 14 years to finally think and work like an—ehem—artist.
The complexity of creative process makes me respecting fellow artists even
more. It’s not easy, and it hurts when people steal your idea or not appreciating
your work.
So far,
there are only four dolls finished. I called this series as “The Dress I Want
to Make”. There will be another blog post of me rambling about the story behind
this series.
